‘Squid Game’ season two trailer reveals sadistic return to the Games
The new trailer features Seong Gi-hun, played by Lee Jung-jae, back in the game as Player 456
The nightmare truly never stops. The latest trailer for the second season of Squid Game opens with Lee Jung-jae‘s Seong Gi-hun waking up from a restless slumber and brandishing a gun at a masked figure waiting outside his door.
Released as part of Netflix‘s Geeked Week event in Atlanta, the clip quickly escalates to more menacing masked figures marching with guns, this time in pink onesies, and Gi-hun finding himself once again in the game as Player 456. A unseen voice declares “We’re ready to start the game” in Korean over the teaser.
Season two takes place three years after Gi-hun won the massive cash prize for surviving the brutal Squid Game. According to a synopsis of the upcoming series, “Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport.” While Gi-hun uses his newfound fortune to fund his search, he soon realises “the path toward taking down the organisation proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
An earlier trailer for the next installation flashed the numbered, green tracksuits of the next round of participants including Gi-hun.
The series is slated to return on Dec. 26, and the third and final season will be released in 2025.
