‘Sex and the City’ stars “deeply saddened” by Chris Noth assault allegations
"We suppport the women"
The stars of ‘Sex and the City’ have said they are “deeply saddened” by allegations of sexual assault made against their co-star Chris Noth.
Noth – who played Mr Big in ‘Sex and the City’ and reprised his role in new reboot ‘And Just Like That’, was accused last week of assaulting two women 10 years apart, allegations he called “categorically false”.
Taking to social media, ‘Sex and the City’ stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis, who played Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte respectively in the show, shared the same messages on their profiles.
The message read: “We are deeply saddened to hear the allegations against Chris Noth. We support the women who have come forward and shared their painful experiences.
“We know it must be a very difficult thing for them to do and we commend them for it.”
Following the allegations, Noth was removed from his role in ongoing CBS drama ‘The Equalizer’, which saw him star opposite Queen Latifah as detective William Bishop.
“Chris Noth will no longer film additional episodes of ‘The Equalizer’, effective immediately,” a spokesperson for Universal Television and CBS said in a statement.
He was also dropped by American exercise bike company Peloton, after he featured in an advert which brought his Sex & The City character back to life after he suffered a heart attack while using one of the bikes.
Despite the public allegations, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said in a statement that there is currently no investigation ongoing into the allegations against Noth.
A spokesperson said: “There is no record of a report being filed at this time. Without a report there is no investigation.”
The two women came forward separately to The Hollywood Reporter to discuss their alleged experiences, and discuss how they had been triggered by Noth’s appearance in ‘And Just Like That’, the ‘Sex and the City’ spin-off that aired on HBO Max this month.
