Kit Connor and Joe Locke will bring their hit Netflix series Heartstopper to a close with a big movie finale that’s set to go into production this summer.
The coming-of-age queer romance — based on Alice Oseman’s graphic novel series of the same name — has enjoyed a successful three-season run, developing both a devoted fanbase and earning strong reviews from critics. The Heartstopper movie will conclude the story of Nick (Connor), Charlie (Locke), and their friends, with a story based on Oseman’s own sixth and final volume of the graphic novel series.
Per a synopsis, the film will find Nick and Charlie grappling with the difficulties and doubts that come with a long-distance relationship as Nick prepares to leave for university and Charlie finds fresh independence at school. With their friends contending with their own ups and downs, the film will dig into the “bittersweet challenges” of young adulthood and first love.
“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Oseman said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.”
A release date for the Heartsopper movie hasn’t been announced yet, nor has the film’s full cast been confirmed. During its three-season TV run, Connor and Locke have been joined by William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Toby Donovan, Jenny Walker, Fisayo Akinade, Corrine Brown, Kizzy Edgell, and Rhea Norwood.
Others like Olivia Colman, Sebastian Croft, Stephen Fry, Hayley Atwell, and Jonathan Bailey have all featured in the show as well.
