Volume 2 of ‘Island Book of Records’ digs deep into the legendary Island Records
Neil Storey’s new book tracks the label’s 1969-1970 era, featuring insights into 64 LPs from the time
The second volume of Neil Storey’s Island Book of Records is out now, chronicling the history of the legendary Island Records.
Last year, Storey – an archivist and former Head of Press at Island – released the first volume of the book, which tracked every release on Island between 1959-1968.
Volume 2, out now, chronicles each and every one of Island’s 64 LPs from 1969-1970 and features 75 interviews with the main players of the time including Island founder Chris Blackwell.
A third volume, tackling the 1971-1972 era, will be published in 2026.

Last month, Island Records won The Record Label Award at the second ever Rolling Stone UK Awards at London’s Roundhouse.
The label’s UK President Louis Bloom accepted the award at London’s Roundhouse from Nia Archives, having beaten the likes of XL Recordings, Communion Music, Ninja Tune, Sony Music and Domino to the prize.
Picking up the award, Bloom reflected on their “amazing” roster of “trailblazing” artists who are “the reason we exist as a label”.
He added that the label’s mission was to sign “true visionaries with exceptional talent”, saying: “It’s a vision and concept we take incredibly seriously.”
“Thank you to the artists who have entrusted us with their careers.”
