The Vaccines announce new EP ‘Planet Of The Youth’
The band have also released new meme-inspired single 'Disaster Girl'
The Vaccines have announced their new EP, ‘Planet Of The Youth’, is set to arrive April 8.
The announcement arrives with new track ‘Disaster Girl’, following last month’s release ‘Thunder Fever’.
Singer Justin Young explained that he wrote the title after he saw the ‘Disaster Girl’ meme NFT sell for $500,000 (£379,000).
“It all seemed very apocalyptic to me and fit in with this strange world of the planet of the youth that I was starting to build in my head,” he said in a statement.
“When you first hear it sung, Disaster Girl sounds like some kind of superhero, but when you realise there is a comma between the two words then the meaning obviously flips. Sometimes we’re our own worst enemies in our most meaningful relationships but we don’t see it until everything has gone up in flames.”

The new EP was recorded at The Pool with production from Fryars (Mark Ronson, Pharrell) and mixed by Matt Wiggins (Glass Animals, Florence + The Machine).
Speaking to NME about the new EP, Young explained why the group decided to make new music before touring September 2021 record ‘Back In Love City’.
“At times, releasing music in the pandemic felt like we were releasing it into a black hole. Records are always snapshots in time of where you’re at as artists, but we’re only touring ‘Back In Love City’ three years after we started recording it.
“This EP is something fresher for us and for people coming to the shows. It’s been disappointing not playing the ‘Back In Love City’ songs live as soon as the album came out, and we haven’t had the same bond with it as we’d usually have with an album.
