S Club to release first single in 20 years as tribute to Paul Cattermole

S Club will be releasing a new single, ‘These Are The Days’, in tribute to the late Paul Cattermole, their first new music for two decades.

Cattermole was found dead in his Dorset home at the age of 46 in April, just a week after the group announced their reunion tour for later in the year. It was later determined that he died of natural causes.

The single will be released on Wednesday (July 26) and was written by S Club’s original songwriting team of Cathy Dennis, Simon Ellis, Johanne Ellis and producer John Nathaniel. It is their first song performed as a five piece after Cattermole’s death and the subsequent decision of Hannah Spearritt to step away from the group. Cattermole and Spearritt had dated for five years in the early 2000s and then briefly reunited in 2015.

The single also marks S Club’s 25th anniversary, as will the forthcoming tour, which will see the group play a 15-date string of arena shows. The group confirmed that it would still be going ahead despite Cattermole’s death, just without Spearritt. The tour has since been named the ‘Good Times’ tour in honour of Cattermole, since it was a fan favourite track that he also sang lead vocals on and he had also hoped to sing it while they were on the road.

Many dates on the tour have sold out, with several others added.

Back in February, the band announced that they also had plans to release new music, as well as embark on the forthcoming anniversary tour. “It’s something that we have spoken about and something that we would all be up for, but at the minute we’re just seeing how the tour goes first,” Jon Lee had said.

“We had loads of album tracks, B-sides [and] songs that were performed on the TV series that [our fans] have never seen us perform live before, so we’d love to hear via social media if there’s anything they would love to see.”
