Nick Cave and his frequent bandmate/collaborator Warren Ellis have announced a full global cinema release for their upcoming film This Much I Know To Be True.
The Andrew Dominik-directed film will be released in cinemas across the world on May 11, with tickets going on sale on March 23 here.
It initially debuted at the Berlin Film Festival last month and is considered to be a companion piece to 2016’s One More Time With Feeling, which focused on the trauma that Cave and his family experienced following the death of his son, Arthur, in 2015.
The film was shot on location in London and Brighton last year and will “document the duo’s first performances of the albums and feature a special appearance by close friend and long-term collaborator, Marianne Faithfull”.
It will also feature songs from their last two studio albums, 2019’s ‘Ghosteen’ (by Cave & The Bad Seeds) and last year’s ‘Carnage’ (by Cave and Ellis).
An initial clip from the film was released last month and saw Cave performing ‘Lavender Fields’, an album track from ‘Carnage’.
“I’m trying to wean myself off those definitions of myself that are about my occupation and see myself as a person, as a husband, as a father,” Cave says in the clip, referring to his typical habit of labelling himself first and foremost as a musician and writer.
The creative partnership between Cave, Ellis and Dominik continues with the musicians scoring the director’s forthcoming Marilyn Monroe biopic ‘Blonde’. The trio also worked together on the 2007 film ‘The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford’.
In Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds news, the band have been announced to play Best Kept Secret festival in the Netherlands this year alongside The Strokes, Alt-j, Jamie xx, Mura Masa, Beach House, Leon Bridges, Sigrid, Jessie Ware and others.
