Yeah Yeah Yeahs are set to release new music this autumn after signing to US indie record label Secretly Canadian.
The New York trio, whose latest album ‘Mosquito’ came out in 2013, are due to play their first UK headline shows in nine years next month. Upon announcing the gigs, YYYs revealed that they had “some tunes so fresh and so NEW to try out” on those crowds.
Yesterday (May 2) the Karen O-fronted band shared a brief snippet of a synthy new tune while confirming further concerts in New York and Los Angeles for this October. You can watch the video clip below.
“Cannot wait to play you some tunes old and NEW! New music! New Era! And New Home with @secretlycndian! Much to celebrate! LUV yyys,” tweeted Yeah Yeah Yeahs of the news.
Secretly Canadian, which is also home to Stella Donnelly and Porridge Radio, wrote: “We are beyond thrilled to welcome the icons that are Yeah Yeah Yeahs into the Secretly Canadian family!!!
“New music soon & oh boy it was worth the wait.”
Yeah Yeah Yeahs last performed in the UK in 2018 at All Points East festival in Victoria Park, London. In early 2020, frontwoman O explained that she was “ready to make some music” with the band after their extended hiatus.
“It feels like time to have something new out there,” she told Double J at the time. “But that’s yet to happen, so we’ll see how this year goes.”
Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ 2022 UK headline dates are as follows:
June
5 – O2 Apollo Manchester, Manchester
7 – O2 Academy Brixton, London
8 – O2 Academy Brixton, London
The group are also set to perform at Primavera Sound 2022 in Barcelona next month ahead of two Australian concerts in Melbourne and Sydney. You can see their full schedule and find ticket details here.
