Watch Poppy Ajudha’s stunning acoustic performance of ‘My Future’
By Nick Reilly
Poppy Ajudha has shared the acoustic version of her recent song ‘My Future’. You can watch the stunning performance first on Rolling Stone UK.
The latest performance from the London artist sees her in full flight as she lays down the track in a recording studio, with the acoustic rendition allowing the track’s message of dreams and aspirations to become clearer than ever.
It’s also an intimate look at the neo-soul star’s own thought processes as she is seen to admit experiencing nerves before the performance. Quite understandably, then, she’s described the whole thing as an “emotional and transformative experience”.
“Shooting this acoustic visual was so special because it was the first time I’d ever sung these songs live, and hearing them stripped back with musicians I love to work with and call close friends was quite an emotional and transformative experience,” she said.
“‘My Future’ is the first of a series of acoustic versions I can’t wait to share with the world & I think this home style video captures our day recording perfectly.’”
Of the track itself, Poppy added: “This song is a celebration of putting my dreams and aspirations first and being able to revel in the joy of being my authentic self. A major theme in my life is that people may come and go but I’ll always have my music, it’s my most important constant, and will always be my first love.
“I wrote this song when I felt so focused on my dreams that everything else felt like a distraction. Sometimes you have to be selfish to work out what you want but unfortunately not everyone in your life will get that. I want people to hear this song and know that no person or thing can stand in the way of their dreams. We all need a loving support system but ultimately, no one can fill your cup like you can!”
It’s the latest exciting chapter for an artist who has racked up an impressive slew of achievements so far. Poppy was previously invited by Naomi Campbell to perform at her ‘Fashion for Relief’ event, opened the late Virgil Abloh’s ‘Figures of Speech’ exhibition, and has also worked alongside brands such as Dior, Delvaux, and Nike.
In 2022, Poppy also performed at the Venice Biennale as part of an exhibition by award-winning artist Sonia Boyce – the first black woman to represent Britain at the event.
With more music on the horizon, expect those achievements to grow even further.
The acoustic version of Poppy’s My Future lands on streaming services tomorrow and you can pre-save it now.
