The xx have revealed they’re in the studio working on anticipated new music, as well as telling Rolling Stone UK if we might expect to hear an album this year.
A photo shared to the band’s Instagram showed all three members – Jamie xx, Oliver Sim and Romy – hard at week in the studio. A caption confirmed that the candid snap was taken last week.

It’s the first update from the group to emerge this year and comes after Jamie told Rolling Stone UK at the Brit Awards that they had reconvened once more to work on the first music since 2017’s I See You.
“I have no idea when you might hear it, but we just spent a week in my house recording, writing and hanging out,” he said when asked about new material.
“That was super nice and I’m just looking forward to that. It’s such early days and we’re writing stuff that sounds different every day.”
Opening up on if each member’s solo projects could inform new material from the group, he explained that the vast array of influences would be “challenging” to whittle down, but will “help it be good in the long run”.
So could we hear a new xx album in 2025? “That would be nice but I’m prone to very long stints of recording so we’ll see,” he said.
The last time the group all teamed up was on Jamie’s 2024 single ‘Waited All Night’ from his album In Waves.
“Now that we’ve all done our own things and we’re starting to get back in the studio, I think it’s going to be a bit harder, because we’re all slightly further apart musically,” he added to RS UK last year.
“That was also the point of why we did it, so it’s more of a challenge, but I don’t know how it’s going to end up.”
