The 1975‘s Matty Healy has seemingly confirmed his engagement to Gabbriette Bechtel during a show from Charli XCX.
The couple, who have been dating since last year, faced a slew of speculation last night after Bechtel shared a telling update on her Instagram stories while attending Charli’s show in New York City.
In her photo, Butchel’s hand is seen wearing a large black ring on her wedding ring finger. She captioned the snap: “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT.”
She subsequently shared a mirror selfie which showed the ring, while Healy also re-shared her first photo.
“Very Brat” is a reference to the title of Charli XCX’s latest album, released this month. Bechtel has been friends with the singer since 2016 and was chosen by the singer to head up the short-lived rock group Nasty Cherry, whose creation was documented in a Netflix series called I’m With The Band: Nasty Cherry. Charli, meanwhile, is engaged to Healy’s 1975 bandmate George Daniel.
More recently, Healy responded after a supposed “diss track” against him emerged on Taylor Swift‘s latest album The Tortured Poets Department. Though Swift is yet to discuss her inspirations on the latest album, it has been speculated that Healy – who had a brief relationship with Swift in 2023 – was the subject of the album’s title track and also the song ‘The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived’.
Approached by paparazzi after the album’s release in April, he said: “My diss track? “Oh! I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good.”
Swift and Healy were romantically linked with each other from April to June 2023, after she split from long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn.
