LCD Soundsystem have shared ‘X-Ray Eyes’, a surprise release from the New York legends.

The song dropped as a “worldwide exclusive” on NTS Radio earlier today (October 22), and marks the first song from the group since 2022’s ‘New Body Rhumba’ which featured in Noah Baumbach’s 2022 film White Noise. The group’s last album, however, came in 2017’s ‘American Dream’, sparking speculation that this new song could mark the start of an album campaign.

“I have a very, very, very special exclusive for you,” said NTS host Anu, before introducing the song. “LCD Soundsystem are back with a brand new track, and I’m going to premiere it right now.”

On the trance-flecked track, frontman James Murphy offers a call out to “every busboy, cigarette girl, dental hygienist, backpacking teen, newspaper seller, and the nightclub MC, you’re everything – you’re all I can see. The bones in your body,  the blood in your veins, your hasty decisions and behavioural chains…

While it’s yet to be revealed if a fifth album is on the way, the track comes after a busy summer that has seen the group play a triumphant set on the first day of Glastonbury, as well as a headline set at east London’s All Points East Festival.

Hailing that London set as “engaging and enthralling”, Rolling Stone UK wrote: “While almost identical to their headline performance here in 2018 in terms of setlist, LCD’s headline set is given a touching and tragic edge when James Murphy tells the crowd of the death of his business partner Justin Chearno. “We’re all fucking destroyed,” Murphy said, with Nancy Whang then singing ‘Someone Great’ through floods of tears.

“The communal support then showed for the band throughout the rest of the set gave ‘New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down’, ‘All My Friends’ and more even further gravitas.”
