Sundara Karma announce new EP and share title track – listen
'Oblivion!' is out on April 1
By Joe Goggins
Sundara Karma have announced details of a new EP and shared another single – you can hear it below.
‘Oblivion!’ will be released via Chess Club Records on April 1. It is the London four-piece’s fourth EP, and their first since 2020’s ‘Kill Me’. Its five tracks were produced by Clarence Clarity, known for his own solo work and for his production on records by the likes of Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama.
The title track, which follows on from the release of EP closer ‘Godsend’ last October, is available to stream now on all major platforms, and arrives with a music video directed by Prosper Unger-Hamilton. You can see the timely clip below; ahead of Sunday’s Super Bowl, it casts the band as American footballers, performing the track out on the pitch.
In a statement, frontman Oscar Pollock said of the single: “’Oblivion!’ came together so quickly, I wrote the whole thing in about 2 days in the summer last year. I had been revisiting a lot of my favourite music from around 2003 and was feeling quite nostalgic at the time. It definitely plays into the rockier aspects of our ‘sound’ but ultimately I think it’s a wonderful pop song.”
Pollock also elaborated on the meaning behind the track’s sports-inspired video. “There is a lot about ‘Oblivion!’ that is overtly Americanised and right from the get go we felt it was a great opportunity to lean into this theme aesthetically. Prosper Unger-Hamilton thought it made sense for the video to reference images of impact and collision and we explored different types of extreme sports and the kind of garments the players wear but American Football felt like the perfect backdrop for a doomsday narrative.”
The full track listing for ‘Oblivion!’ is as follows:
- ‘Oblivion!’
- ‘All These Dreams’
- ‘DESIRE’
- ‘Everytime’
- ‘Godsend’
Tour dates behind ‘Oblivion!’ have yet to be confirmed, but a press release accompanying the announcement promises more festival appearances this summer. Sundara Karma have already been announced to play Kendal Calling, Truck and Y-Not, all in July.
