The South Asian Sounds Festival will return to the Southbank Centre later this year, after the success of the event’s inaugural year.
The London event runs from May 15-18 and offers a full celebration of the musical traditions of the South Asian diaspora, alongside UK-based artists who span intersections of culture and genre. The programme is set to be highlighted across the centre’s three iconic venues: Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room.
Among the first names announced included Baluji Shrivastav OBE and Re-Orient (Thursday, May 15), for a blend of Latin, Indian, and jazz music paired with captivating Indian dance.
There’s also set to be performances from celebrated sitarist Roopa Panesar, Punjabi singer Jaz Dhani, Bollywood performer Osmar Mir and the Rizwan Muazzam Qawwali Group.
Artistic Director Mark Ball said: “South Asian Sounds continues to build on the Southbank Centre’s legacy of showcasing diverse musical cultures, connecting new and seasoned audiences alike with the best of this rich heritage and fresh creative voices.”
Tickets go on sale to members on Tuesday 21 January at 10 am and to the general public on Wednesday 22 January at 10 am via the Southbank Centre website.
