Sam Fender shares new track ‘Wild Long Lie’ as he gears up to start UK and Ireland tour
The contemplative effort sees him reflect on tall tales told by old hometown friends.

Sam Fender has shared ‘Wild Long Lie’, the latest track from his upcoming third album, People Watching.
The Tyneside star’s latest effort isn’t Christmassy per se, but it sees him talk about “that time of the year again, when your past comes home” as he waxes lyrical about reuniting with outlandish characters who are only too ready to dish out some tall tales. Or, as it’s known in some circles, returning to your hometown pub on Christmas Eve.
The contemplative, laid-back effort is a contrast to the album’s euphoric title track but it’s a powerful and thoughtful track in its own right too.
No doubt he’ll air both of them at his UK and Ireland arena tour, which kicks off tonight (December 2) in Dublin.
After this tour, next summer will see Fender play a string of stadium dates in the UK. These include three shows at Newcastle’s St James’ Park and one at the London Stadium.
Fender produced his latest record alongside bandmates Dean Thompson and Joe Atkinson over two years, working firstly in London in 2023 with producer Markus Dravs, and then earlier this year in Los Angeles with The War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, after they were seen in the studio together.
According to an official release, the record marks Fender’s “next step forward – colourful stories and observations of everyday characters living their everyday, but often extraordinary, lives.”
