Release date confirmed for new BLACKPINK single
'The Girls' will be released within 'BLACKPINK THE GAME' on Wednesday (August 23)

BLACKPINK have announced a release date for their much-anticipated new single, ‘The Girls’.
The track, which is part of the soundtrack for the Korean group’s new mobile video game, BLACKPINK THE GAME, will arrive this Wednesday (August 23) at 4am UTC/5am BST. The news was broken on the game’s social media channels.
Alongside the announcement was a short video in which the members of the group discussed the track. “Really, I’m 100 per cent- no, 110 per cent satisfied,” said ROSÉ. The band were seen playing a number of different games in the clip, to mark the release of their own.
Another social media post confirmed that the song will initially be released within the game itself, before reaching traditional channels. The wait for ‘The Girls’ has been a long one, with the tea behind BLACKPINK THE GAME having released a statement early last month (July 4) explaining delays in putting out the track and promising that it would be out by the end of that month, a date that was subsequently missed.
“Our deep desire to present the highest quality of content flawlessly took longer than expected, and therefore our initial plan to release the MV simultaneously with the game release was delayed significantly,” said the team’s statement. The game itself places the player in a management position for the band, and also involves puzzles and mini-games. “Players will witness the never-seen-before sides of Blackpink in a variety of ways,” said developer Takeone at the time of its announcement. “We hope all fans around the world will be able to enjoy the game.”
The news of the new single will doubtless excite BLACKPINK’s British fans, who count the actor Hugh Grant among their number. “Very grateful to three eleven year olds for taking me to see @BLACKPINK yesterday,” he tweeted in July of 2022, having attended the group’s show in London’s Hyde Park. “Am rabid Blink now. Slept with my heart hammer.” BLINKs are the band’s term for their fans; the final sentence, meanwhile, refers to the group’s signature pink hammer light-stick.
