Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs has given an update on his health, confirming that he is now cancer-free.
The former Oasis guitarist, who plays regularly in Liam Gallagher‘s solo band, announced back in April that he had been diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Arthurs told fans that the condition was “treatable”, and said he’d be undergoing a course of treatment.
In June, the musician said he’d completed 30 radiotherapy sessions and two rounds of chemotherapy. “I’m back for a scan [at the] end of September to check all’s well, but for now it’s into recovery mode,” he wrote at the time.
Bonehead took to social media last night (September 29), writing: “Update on my cancer; I had a full scan 10 days ago and it’s all clear, it’s gone.
“Thank you so much all of you for the messages I’ve had throughout , you’ve helped more than you know. Thank you especially to the team at @TheChristieNHS , into recovery now and see you all soon x.”
In response to the good news, Arthurs’ friend and bandmate Liam Gallagher tweeted: YES BONEHEAD WE KNEW YOUD KICK ITS ARSE SOOOOO FUCKING HAPPY GUINNESS LG x [sic].”
Bonehead was forced to pull out of some live shows with Gallagher this year due to his diagnosis, including the singer’s two huge Knebworth concerts.
The ex-Oasis frontman released his third solo album, C’mon You Know, this May. In a four-star review, Rolling Stone UK wrote: “The musical textures on C’mon You Know — provided by long-term collaborators Greg Kurstin and Andrew Watt — are perfectly tailored for Gallagher’s impressive but largely inflexible voice.
“Before he’d only thrive when sing-speaking in a rage, but the chorus of the slinky ‘Diamond in the Dark’ houses a melodic vocal perfectly, while single ‘Everything’s Electric’ is quintessential Liam, with his voice powerfully bursting out of its chorus.”
Last month saw Gallagher share a remix of ‘Diamond in the Dark’ by DJ Premier.
