Is peace in our times between the Gallagher brothers on the horizon? While the answer to that perennial question remains unclear, Noel Gallagher has at least praised his brother and former Oasis bandmate Liam in a fresh interview.

The compliments came as Gallagher spoke to journalist John Robb at Manchester’s Sifters Records, for a new video interview as Oasis gear up to celebrate 30 years of Definitely Maybe next Friday.

Hailing Liam’s vocal abilities in the clip, Noel said: “I can’t sing ‘Slide Away’ and ‘Cigarettes & Alcohol’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Star’ and ‘Columbia’ and all that.

“I mean I can do it but it’s not the same. It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.”

He went on to liken their voices to drinks, explaining: “Liam’s is a shot of tequila, right, and mine’s half a Guinness. Mine’s half a Guinness on a Tuesday. It’s alright. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a fucking Friday night.”

Robb then quipped: “And you should never mix those two,” to which Noel responded: “No.”

Reflecting on the night the pair recorded ‘Supersonic’, Noel said: “I sing ‘Supersonic’ with the same melody, the same words, the same inflexions, but when he sings it, it’s a bit more menacing.”

He added: “When I would sing a song it would sound good, when he would sing it, it would sound great.”

And while the pair have been at loggerheads, Noel also seemingly praised his brother’s solo work, saying: “What he did was inspire the kids at the front to do something, do you know what I mean? ‘If he can do it I can do it’. And he’s still doing that now.”

Next week sees Oasis release their reissue of debut album Definitely Maybe to celebrate its 30th anniversary.

The reissue will land on August 30 and feature unheard versions of tracks from the iconic 1994 debut album.

The deluxe edition features discarded recordings from the album’s original sessions, as well as outtakes newly mixed by Noel Gallagher and Callum Marinho.

It will be available on Limited-Edition Deluxe 4LP and Deluxe 2CD formats, exclusive coloured vinyl and cassette, as well as digitally.
