Nine Inch Nails announce London, Glasgow & Manchester dates for June
The industrial titans will play Glasgow, Manchester and London
By Joe Goggins
Nine Inch Nails have announced three new UK shows for this summer.
The industrial rock titans had previously confirmed a two-night stand at Cornwall’s Eden Project for June 17 and 18, and will now play further gigs in Glasgow, Manchester and London the same month, as they return to the UK for the first time since 2018. You can see the full itinerary below.
The venues on the run – O2 Academy Glasgow, O2 Apollo Manchester and O2 Academy Brixton – are intimate by NIN’s standards; their shows are famed for their high production values. The band, now officially comprised of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, released two new albums in their ‘Ghosts’ series in 2020, ‘Ghosts V: Together’ and ‘Ghosts VI: Locusts’. Both were made available as a free download, as a show of solidarity with fans during the coronavirus pandemic.
The group had previously been set to return to the stage in the U.S. last autumn, but pulled a string of shows over COVID-19 concerns. “When originally planned, these shows were intended to be a cathartic and celebratory return to live music,” they said in a statement at the time. “However, with each passing day it’s becoming more apparent we’re not at that place yet.”
The statement concluded: “We are sorry for any inconvenience or disappointment and look forward to seeing you again when the time is right.” They’re now currently scheduled to make their live return next month in Raleigh, North Carolina, at the Red Hat Amphitheater. Support on all UK dates will come from Yves Tumor, bar the first night at the Eden Project; Nitzer Ebb will open on the 17th instead. Tickets go on general sale on Friday (March 25) at 10am; an O2 Priority pre-sale opens on Wednesday (March 23) at 9am.
NIN last appeared in the UK in 2018 at Meltdown Festival, at the personal invitation of that year’s curator, The Cure frontman Robert Smith. They played a one-off show at the Royal Albert Hall on the same trip. Their last regional shows in the UK came as they toured ‘Hesitation Marks’ in 2014. The June gigs will be their first in Europe since being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. The timing of the tour leaves open the possibility of a Glastonbury appearance, although they were not among the artists named in the initial lineup announcement.
