Central Cee and Bashy among main winners at the MOBOs

The ceremony took place in Newcastle last night.

The MOBO Awards took place in Newcastle last night, with Central Cee, Bashy and Arya Starr among the big winners.

The 27th edition of the annual awards ceremony, which celebrates music of Black origin, took place at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on Tuesday (February 18), hosted by comedian Eddie Kadi and Indiyah Polack.

Bashy scooped the Album Of The Year prize for Being Poor Is Expensive, his first record in 15 years, while he was also named the Best Hip Hop Act.

Central Cee took home Best Male Act for a record third time, while Ezra Collective won Best Jazz Act and ALT BLK ERA were crowned Best Alternative Music Act.

Other big winners on the night included Darkoo, who won Best Female Act as well as Song Of The Year for ‘Favourite Girl’ featuring Dess Dior, while Ayra Starr picked up gongs for Best African Music Act and Best International Act.

The show was live streamed on YouTube from 8pm on the night, although an exclusive ‘Access All Areas’ broadcast is set to air on BBC One this Friday (February 21) at 11:25pm.
