Met Gala 2023: Doja Cat and Jared Leto dress as cats while Florence Pugh debuts shaved head
The fur was flying at last night's event...
Doja Cat, Jared Leto and Florence Pugh led the most distinctive looks at last night’s 2023 Met Gala, after debuting feline fashion and surprise new hairstyles.
The 30 Seconds To Mars and singer and rapper, respectively, showed off elaborate cat outfits to pay homage to late design icon Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved white Burmese cat, Choupette.
The theme of this year’s event was a tribute to Lagerfeld, who passed away in 2019. He was known for his pioneering work as the creative director of Chanel from 1983 until his eventual death in February 2019.
While Leto’s outfit saw him fully disguised in a furry cat costume, Doja instead opted for a dress that featured jewels and cat ears, while she also modelled a prosthetic snout.
One of the best reactions of the night to Leto’s outfit came from Lizzo, who was seen to visibly mouth ‘who is this?’ after being approached by the star in full cat outfit.
Pugh, meanwhile, debuted one of the night’s most distinctive hairstyles with a freshly shaved head. While the bold look would’ve made for quite the fashion statement, the British actress revealed that it was required for her role in We Live In Time, her upcoming film with Andrew Garfield.
“It was required for the job that I happily wanted to do and I thought what is the best way to release it to the world than at the Met,” she told press on the red carpet.
“I’ve been keeping it under wraps for about three weeks now,” she added. “I’m very happy to have it here with this look, it makes everything perfect.”
The film has been described as a “a funny, deeply moving and immersive love story”, though specific details are yet to emerge.
