Mel C says all of the Spice Girls want to perform at next year’s Glastonbury Festival
Sporty Spice, Baby Spice, Ginger Spice, Posh Spice and Scary Spice are eyeing up the Legends slot
Mel C has said that all members of the Spice Girls would like to play Glastonbury Festival 2024.
The singer, who made her festival debut on Saturday (24 June) on the Avalon Stage, said in a new interview that her hugely successful 1990s pop group would happily reunite for the festival.
She told BBC Radio 6 Music’s Matt Everitt in response to whether the band would accept to play the Sunday afternoon legends slot: “All of the Spice Girls would like to play Glasto, that is the truth [via BBC].
“Like I said to the audience [on Saturday night], doing a couple of Spice Girls songs, ‘a bit of a warm-up for next year?’
“They’re rehearsed, they know the words, they’re ready,” Mel C continued. “So, if I can drag the other girls along… I say ‘drag’ the other girls along – all of the Spice Girls would like to play Glasto, that is the truth. It’s just getting it together, the timing being right.”
Mel C, whose nickname in the group was Sporty Spice and has released eight solo albums since the band split in 2000, said that the prospect is “quite daunting”.
“Some of the girls haven’t been up on stage for years,” she said, “but I think it’s, we call it [playing Glastonbury] the bucket list, because as an artist it really is the ultimate.”
The Spice Girls officially broke up in 2000 but have held temporary reunions since with live shows in 2007, 2008, 2012 and at various points since 2018.
Mel C last performed with the Spice Girls at Wembley Stadium in 2019, which marked the end of their first tour as a foursome without Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice).
The singer technically made her Glastonbury debut last year as a DJ where she also joined Blossoms on stage for a rendition of ‘Spice Up Your Life’. This year marked her first solo set.
