Mel C has revealed that another Spice Girls reunion might be in the works, saying the group are “constantly” discussing the possibility of more touring.
The nineties icons most recently hit the road in 2019, taking their greatest hits to stadiums across the UK – albeit without Victoria Beckham, who opted to sit out the tour. Speaking to stand-in host Howard Mandel on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ on Monday (December 20), the artist better known as Sporty Spice said: “We’re talking about it. We are talking about it constantly.”
“It was always the plan,” she continued. “We did these amazing stadium shows two years ago. It was the best thing we’ve ever done. The creative was so incredible. We had the best time.”
She went on to suggest that a first US tour in over a decade would be part of their plans. The singer was on the show to promote the 25th anniversary reissue of ‘Spice’, the group’s 1996 debut album, which racked up four UK number one singles: ‘Wannabe’, ‘Say You’ll Be There’, ‘2 Become 1’ and the double A-side ‘Mama/Who Do You Think You Are’. Released in the UK in October in a range of formats, ‘Spice25’ went in at number five on the albums chart.
Rumours of a fresh reunion first surfaced last month, with The Sun reporting that Mel B, Geri Halliwell and Emma Bunton had met for talks at the Mandeville Hotel in Marylebone, with Mel C joining them via Zoom from Los Angeles. The report suggested that a world tour would get underway in Australia in 2023.
The four have not given up hope of Beckham joining them onstage, even for just one show on the run. The fashion designer last performed with the group at the closing ceremony of the London Olympics in 2012, after having participated in their previous reunion shows in 2007 and 2008.
Mel B was apparently urged to reunite the Spice Girls by avowed fan Adele last month, when Scary Spice was among those to ask the ’30’ star a question at her ‘An Audience with Adele’ event at the London Palladium. However, she was reportedly cut from the ITV broadcast for making an X-rated joke.
