Madonna has reacted after Donald Trump posted an image of himself with the message ‘Long Live The King’.

On Wednesday (February 19), the White House’s official account on Twitter/X shared a mocked-up Time Magazine cover with the title switched to ‘Trump’, alongside a picture of the US leader wearing a crown as he stood in front of the New York City skyline.

Madonna, one of the President’s most outspoken critics, posted on Instagram stories yesterday (February 20) to note that Trump’s positioning as a monarch was somewhat ironic given that no such position exists in the US.

“I thought this country was built by Europeans, escaping living under the rule of a king, to establish a New World governed by the people” Madonna said. “Currently, we have a president who calls himself our King. If this is a joke, I’m not laughing.”

Back in January, she also criticised Trump’s wave of executive orders issued after his inauguration which targeted LGBTQ+ Americans.

“It’s so sad to watch our new Government slowly dismantling all the Freedoms we have been fighting for and WON over the years”, she wrote, alongside rainbow flag and a broken heart emojis. “Don’t give up the Fight!”

After Trump’s election win in November, she raged: “Trying to get my head around why a convicted felon, rapist, bigot was chosen to lead our country because he’s good for the economy?”

In January, Madonna also delivered a surprise stand-up comedy set in New York.
