Mabel covers Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’ for Christmas advert
The pop singer has released a pared back version of Lauper's 1983 anthem
Mabel has released a cover of Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’ for a new Christmas advert.
The pop singer’s rendition soundtracks McDonald’s new campaign, which will donate 10p to FareShare, the UK’s national network of charitable food re-distributors, for every download.
Mabel‘s cover of Lauper’s 1983 anthem ‘Time After Time’ is a pared back, piano-led version of the song, which you can stream below now.
Last year, McDonald’s Christmas advert depicted embracing one’s inner child and featured a cover of Alphaville’s ‘Forever Young’ by Becky Hill.
Londoner Mabel previously released her own Christmas song called ‘Loneliest Time Of Year’ in 2019. Her debut album, ‘High Expectations’, was released in 2019 and peaked at number three in the UK albums chart.
More recently, Mabel released ‘Let Them Know’ in June, which has since gone on to become her 10th UK top 10 hit. In July she joined forces with AJ Tracey for their song ‘West Ten’.
She also released a track called ‘Take It Home’ in July to celebrate 25 years of Pokémon. The song features on ‘Pokémon 25: The Album’, a special anniversary record that’s also has guest turns by Post Malone, Katy Perry and J Balvin.
Its accompanying music video featured Jigglypuff. “I’ve been a fan of Pokémon for years, so I jumped at the opportunity to join the P25 program,” Mabel said of her contribution in a statement.
“I had so much fun working with Pikachu and my all-time favourite Pokémon, Jigglypuff, for the ‘Take It Home’ video. I hope the fans love the song as much as I loved working on it to celebrate 25 years of Pokémon!”
Colin Palmer of Pokémon added: “Mabel’s incredible talent and pop sensibilities add a massive layer of fun to Pokémon’s P25 Music campaign, celebrating 25 years of Pokémon.
“Music fans are going to love ‘Take it Home’ and Pokémon fans will be delighted to see a Jigglypuff, known for being a bubbly Pokémon who also loves to sing, featured in Mabel’s vibrant video. It’s a pitch-perfect collaborative match for our 25th-anniversary celebration.”
