Louis Theroux announces new BBC interview series featuring Stormzy
The show, currently titled 'The Louis Theroux Interviews', will premiere on BBC Two
Louis Theroux has announced details of a new interview series, which will see him sitting down with cultural icons including Stormzy.
The show, currently titled ‘The Louis Theroux Interviews’, will come to the BBC this year. Its first episode will feature the Croydon-bred rapper, with the guest for the subsequent five episodes still under wraps.
The Stormzy episode promises “an in-depth and personally revealing encounter” at the rapper’s home and on tour, with Theroux saying of the show: “I’m so excited to be embarking on this new series – something very different to the kind of TV I normally make. This will be a chance to meet and spend time with people I admire, getting to know them, having long form and revealing conversations, with honesty, emotion, and humour.
“To be kicking off with the genius that is Stormzy is proper pinch-me stuff. I can’t wait to get going,” he added.
“Louis is one of the most distinctive voices in broadcasting and his unique interview style, warmth and curiosity help bring out incredible life stories from those he meets,” Clare Sillery of the BBC added.
“I am pleased to see him returning with a series that I’m sure will deliver insightful and memorable conversations and bring viewers closer to some of the most exciting names who are shaping culture in Britain today and across the world.”
The show will come to BBC Two, with an air date yet to be announced. It follows details of another forthcoming Theroux production, where he will explore the American rap and hip-hop industry as part of a new three-part documentary series, also for the BBC.
Called ‘Forbidden America’, the three films will be an hour-long each and will air on BBC Two. Theroux will be examining how the internet and social media has changed American entertainment, including some of the more controversial artists and events.
Stormzy, meanwhile, is currently on tour in the UK behind his ‘Heavy Is The Head’ album from 2019.
Reviewing the tour’s date in Leeds, Rolling Stone UK said: “When you find out that the staging was designed by the same team who worked on Beyonce’s Coachella show, it all makes sense; this is big-league behaviour, with all the bells and whistles.”
