Lorde tells fans of recent inspiration and teases music ‘soon’: ‘there’s a light on inside of me’
The follow-up to 2021's ‘Solar Power’ could arrive sooner than expected
Lorde has teased that something new is on the way thanks to a “beautiful” period in which she indicated that she’s felt very inspired.
Writing in a rare Instagram post, the New Zealand pop star said that “there’s so much to tell you” and she wants to “show it to you soon”, which many have interpreted as new music.
The post shared earlier today (10 August) was accompanied by several shots of Lorde swimming in a pool at night. Yesterday (9 August) she played Øya Festival in Oslo, Norway.
“After the show we went swimming…these times are beautiful and they freak me out and there’s so much to tell you,” she wrote. “No this is not the start of anything out there, just want u to know there’s a light on inside me…show it to you soon.”
The Kiwi singer-songwriter’s recent live shows have been dubbed the Night Vision version of her Solar Power tour, which has seen her perform songs from her 2021 album with new, pop-orientated arrangements. A different stage production and visual style also feature in the Night Vision shows.
Lorde next takes her Night Vision set to Boardmasters 2023 in Newquay, Cornwall tomorrow (11 August). She headlines the festival alongside Liam Gallagher and Florence + The Machine.
Meanwhile, the singer reflected recently on the one-year anniversary of her third album Solar Power.
Upon release the album received a polarising reception with many critics and fans not enjoying her change of sound.
In a newsletter to fans, Lorde discussed Solar Power’s reception: “I can honestly say [this] has been the year with the highest highs and the lowest lows I think I’ve ever experienced.”
She added: “It took people a while to get the album – I still get emails every day from people who are just coming around to it now! – and that response was really confounding and at times painful to sit with at first.”
Lorde also said that it has been a learning experience for her: “I learnt a ton about myself and how I’m perceived by making and releasing this album, and I feel significantly more connected and alive in my art practice and life than pretty much ever before. Sounds dry but true!!!”
