Lil Nas X returns to Twitter and reveals “close to finished” album
The 'Montero' singer also teased fans with two new tracks, asking "which one y'all want first?"
Lil Nas X has returned to Twitter after a three month hiatus and shared new music may be coming soon.
The ‘Old Town Road’ singer and rapper reappeared online yesterday, joking that he had been on “maternity leave”, referencing the pregnancy-themed marketing around his debut album ‘Montero’, which came out September last year.
“I’m so happy I’m back on the internet. I missed me so much,” he wrote, followed by screenshots of two songs called ‘late to the party (ft. Youngboy)’ and ‘down souf hoes (ft. Saucy Santana)’.
“Which one y’all want first?” he asked fans, before confirming “new album is close to finished” when one user questioned if the tracks were part of a ‘Montero’ deluxe release.
He also joked that he had been offline because he got a Brazilian butt lift procedure.
The singer’s debut LP opened at no.2 on the Billboard 200 upon release behind Drake’s ‘Certified Lover Boy’.
The album also raised thousands for a variety of charities supporting causes from LGBTQ youth to ending mass incarceration, as Attitude reported.
Shortly after the record’s release, Lil Nas X performed a cover of Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’ in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.
“I chose this because I feel like this song is kind of beautifully sad. I like the little country twang, so I was like ‘let me try this out’,” he said.
Parton said she was “honoured” by the cover, writing on social media: “I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song #Jolene. I had to find it and listen to it immediately… and it’s really good.”
“Of course, I love him anyway. I was surprised and I’m honored and flattered. I hope he does good for both of us. Thank you @LilNasX.”
Lil Nas X is up for five Grammy Awards this year, including Album of the Year for ‘Montero’ and song of the year for ‘Montero (Call Me Boy Your Name)’. He’s also set to perform at the awards which takes place in Las Vegas, April 3.
