Liam Payne has shared new single ‘Teardrops’, marking the start of a new musical journey for the singer.

The former One Direction man leans into late ’90s/turn-of-the-century pop on the new offering, which was written by Payne alongside Jamie Scott – who previously penned tracks for the boyband – and *NSYNC’s JC Chasez.

According to Payne, the track hones in on heartbreak and the effect of being an unreliable partner. Discussing the single, he said: “Teardrops is about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments.”

He sings on the track: “Teardrops are falling/ Down your face again/ ’cause I don’t know how to love you/ And I am broken too.”

“This song marks the start of a new beginning,” Payne added, while teasing to fans that “there’s lots more to come in 2024.”

While the track marks Payne’s first since 2021’s ‘Teardrops’, he has been working with Jamie Scott to create new material over the last year – described as a “year long process of self-reflection”.

Last year, Payne also revealed he had spent time in rehab because he had “kind of became somebody who I didn’t really recognise anymore, and I’m sure you guys didn’t either”.
