Lady Gaga announces new ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ song ‘Hold My Hand’
The track will arrive next week ahead of the film's UK release on May 27
Lady Gaga has announced a new single recorded for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, ‘Hold My Hand’, will be released May 3.
Announcing the song on Instagram yesterday (April 27), the singer revealed the track is produced by BloodPop and Ben Rice, with the film version seeing further production and score music by Harold Faltermeyer and Hans Zimmer.
“When I wrote this song for Top Gun: Maverick, I didn’t even realize the multiple layers it spanned across the film’s heart, my own psyche, and the nature of the world we’ve been living in,” Gaga wrote on Instagram with black and white cover art.
“I’ve been working on it for years, perfecting it, trying to make it ours. I wanted to make music into a song where we share our deep need to both be understood and try to understand each other—a longing to be close when we feel so far away and an ability to celebrate life’s heroes.”
She continued:” I’m so grateful to Tom [Hanks] and Hans and [director Joseph Kosinski] for this opportunity—and it’s been a beautiful experience working with them. Me, BloodPop, Ben Rice and everyone else who worked on it with us are so excited to share it with you. This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time. I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long. And I’m so excited to give it to you on May 3. “Hold My Hand.”
She also included a snippet of lyrics: “But if you decide to / I’ll ride in this life with you / I won’t let go till the end.”
The 1986 ‘Top Gun’ starring Tom Cruise included hits ‘Danger Zone’ by Kenny Loggins and Oscar-winning ‘Take My Breath Away’ performed by Berlin.
Gaga’s last film soundtrack for 2018’s ‘A Star is Born’ earned her an academy award for Best Original Song for ‘Shallow’.
The singer will embark on her anticipated Chromatica Ball UK and Europe tour in July, with two performances scheduled for London on July 29 and 30 at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Last year, she released the Chromatica remix album, which featured collaborations with Rina Sawayama, Charli XCX, BLACKPINK, Bree Runway, Elton John, Ashnikko and more.
‘Top Gun Maverick’ will be released on May 27, 2022.
