BTS singer Jungkook has announced details of his second solo single, which is due to drop later this week.
The Korean phenomenon is set to drop ‘3D’ imminently; the track will feature Jack Harlow, BTS’ label Big Hit Music have confirmed. The song was teased this past weekend when Jungkook played headline set at Global Citizen Festival in New York City on Saturday (September 23).
An enigmatic teaser video screened at the festival set the stage for ‘3D’, which Big Hit describe as a “pop R&B track with clever expressions of feelings toward an unattainable person from the perspectives of first, second and third dimensions.”
The label went further, suggesting that fans can expect a “more mature side of Jungkook” from the release. It comes as the individual members of BTS take a break from the band, with a number of solo projects underway. ‘3D’ will be Jungkook’s second solo track, following on from ‘Seven’, his debut foray as a solo artist, which arrived back in July. The song, which features a guest verse by rapper Latto, was accompanied by a video that starred Korean actress Han So-hee.
Jungkook appears to be making similarly ambitious visual moves with ‘3D’, with concept photos released by Big Hig suggesting a space age theme for the track’s aesthetic. The song is out this coming Friday (September 29), dropping at 1pm KST (5am BST).
In a discussion last week on the talk show hosted by his bandmate Suga, Jungkook confirmed his intentions to release “a small mini-album” by November. He also shared that he had taken his time to follow up ‘Seven’ not releasing a follow-up single until he felt he had found an appropriate track.
BTS’ decision to take a break at the peak of their commercial powers was driven in part by the need for the five members to undertake compulsory military service in their native Korea, as all men must before they turn 30. Last Friday (September 22), it was confirmed that Suga had become the third member of the group to officially enlist, following in the footsteps of Jin and J-hope. “I was able to come this far thanks to you,” Suga told fans in a statement. “And the time has come. I will faithfully complete my duty and come back.”
