Grimes and Elon Musk have had a second child, a daughter, together, it has emerged.
The art-pop maverick and world’s richest man were a couple between 2018 and 2021, and welcomed a son, X AE A-XII, in 2020. Now, a new profile of Grimes – real name Claire Boucher – in Vanity Fair has revealed that their pair had a second child through a surrogate mother last December.
Boucher initially refused to confirm the news, after interviewer Devin Gordon noticed the sound of a crying baby in the background of their call. “I’m not at liberty to speak on these things,” said Boucher. “Whatever is going on with family stuff, I just feel like kids need to stay out of it, and X is just out there. I mean, I think E [Musk] is really seeing him as a protégé and bringing him to everything and stuff.… X is out there. His situation is like that. But, yeah, I don’t know.”
It was later confirmed to Vanity Fair that Boucher and Musk had had a daughter, referred to only as Y in the piece – her full name has not been disclosed. “She’s a little colicky too,” said Boucher in a later call. “I don’t know. I don’t know what I was thinking.” Boucher revealed that she feared serious complications might arise during a second pregnancy of her own, after suffering “scary” health issues during her first.
Accordingly, the couple opted for a surrogate. When pressed on whether she and Musk are again romantically involved, Boucher said: “There’s no real word for it. I would probably refer to him as my boyfriend, but we’re very fluid. We live in separate houses. We’re best friends. We see each other all the time…. We just have our own thing going on, and I don’t expect other people to understand it.”
She added that her relationship with Musk was “the best it’s ever been,” and that they plan to have “at least three or four” children together. Musk already has seven children. Boucher is set to release a new album, ‘Book 1’, this year. She previewed it in December with the track ‘Player of Games’, widely assumed to be about Musk.
