Frontman Billy Joe Armstrong sings about "running with razor blades" and having "sex with strangers" in the new Green Day song
Green Day have released ‘Holy Toledo!’, a new single that celebrates partying and letting go.
The band revealed news of the new song via Twitter on Wednesday (November 4), saying that the single will feature in a new rom-com movie called ‘Mark, Mary & Some Other People’.
“We now interrupt your weekly BBC Live Sessions broadcasts to announce that we’ll be releasing a NEW song this week. ‘Holy Toledo!’ from @MarkMaryMovie is out everywhere this Friday,” Green Day wrote online.
It’s their first new music since two singles – ‘Pollyanna’ and ‘Here Comes The Shock’ – were released earlier in 2021.
Some of the lyrics in the song read: “We’re running with razor blades / Party favors, sex with strangers / We don’t care what the neighbours say.”
The band’s reference to the ‘BBC Live Sessions’ in their tweet about the song earlier this week was in note of their recently announced live album of Maida Vale recordings.
‘The BBC Sessions’ will take in Green Day’s 1994, 1996, 1998 and 2001 Madia Vale sessions as a 16-track release that’s due out on December 10.
The earliest session documented on the new album was recorded on June 8, 1994, months after the band released their celebrated third album ‘Dookie’.
