FLO have been confirmed as the winner of the prestigious BRITs Rising Star award, following in the footsteps of Adele, Florence & The Machine and Sam Fender.
The award, formerly known as the Critics’ Choice award, recognises upcoming talent who are yet to score an Official Album Charts Top 20 or had more than one Top 20 in the Official Singles Chart as of October 31, 2022.
FLO have now been confirmed as the next winners and the first ever group to pick up the prestigious prize. The news was revealed earlier this evening by Clara Amfo on her BBC Radio 1 Future Sounds show.
FLO said: “From growing up watching the BRITs, to finding each other and forming FLO, releasing our first body of work in 2022 and winning a BRIT award in the same year!! We are so shocked and grateful. We are the first group to win the BRITs Rising Star! We’ve just made history and couldn’t have done it without our wonderful fans and supportive families. It’s truly a dream come true. We feel so empowered creating the music we love and we hope others feel that too.”
The girlband, whose debut EP The Lead has now amassed over 70 million streams, saw off competition from the likes of producer Nia Archives and Cat Burns to win the prize.
Comprised of friends Renée Downer, Jorja Douglas and Stella Quaresma, FLO also featured in Rolling Stone UK earlier this year where they discussed their plans for success.
“As a band we’re incredibly hard-working and hold ourselves to the highest standard. We never want to do something without giving our all,” Renée Downer said.
