Father John Misty shares final single from new album, ‘The Next 20th Century’
The track is the fourth release from 'Chloë and the Next 20th Century'
By Joe Goggins
Father John Misty has shared a final taste of his new album ahead of its release on Friday (April 8) in the form of ‘The Next 20th Century’.
The new single, the last to emerge from ‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’ before it arrives in full, runs at almost seven minutes and finds Misty – real name Josh Tillman – on typically brooding, lyrically astute form. You can hear it below.
It is the fourth single from ‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’, following on from ‘Funny Girl’, ‘Q4’ and ‘Goodbye Mr. Blue’. It comes after Misty made his UK live return last night (April 3), performing a set at the BBC 6 Music Festival in Cardiff. He played blacked by an orchestra, and performed the three already-released singles from ‘Chloë and the Next 20th Century’, along with a slew of classics including ‘I Love You Honeybear’ and ‘The Ideal Husband’.
His tour continues tonight (April 4) with two intimate performances at the Brudenell Social Club in Leeds, before heading to London for another orchestral show on April 7 at the Barbican, with the Barbican Associate Ensemble Britten Sinfonia and conductor Jules Buckley.
That gig is being labelled as his only major UK headline gig of 2022; he’s already played a similar show in Los Angeles this year, with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. After an eventful promotional cycle for his 2017 album ‘Pure Comedy’, Misty has shied away from the press both for this album and 2018’s ‘God’s Favourite Customer’.
After the Barbican show, Misty headed to Kingston on April 8, London on April 9, Brighton on April 10 and Bristol on April 11, as he completes a run of low-key in-store performances to promote the album. You can see the full dates below.
