Jeff Lynne’s Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) will play their final ever live show at London’s BST Hyde Park next year.
The gig is billed as a “final goodbye” from the legendary Birmingham band, who became one of the defining groups of the 70s with hits such as ‘Mr Bright Sky’ and ‘Sweet Talkin Woman’.
They’ll play the Great Oak Stage on July 13, with tickets going on sale here on Friday 25 March, alongside a pre-sale this Wednesday.
The announcement also follows the death of the band’s bassist turned keyboardist Richard Tandy, who died at the age of 76 earlier this year.
“My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014,” Jeff Lynne said.
“It seems like the perfect place to do our final show.
“We couldn’t be more excited to share this special night in London with our UK fans. As the song goes, ‘we’re gonna do it One More Time’.”
The group were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017, while Lynne was also one fifth of the legendary supergroup The Travelling Wilburys alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison.
Jim King, CEO of European Festivals at AEG Presents said: “Jeff Lynne’s ELO are loved the world over. The live shows are nothing short of extraordinary and a testament to the incredible catalogue of hits we’ve enjoyed for over 50 years. Hosting their final performance at BST Hyde Park is a true honour, especially 30 years after their first festival show in the same park. We’re excited to be part of this special moment in music history.”
