It’s an early Christmas present for fans of Ed Sheeran – the singer says he’s already finished his new album, and has teased what fans can expect.

Last year saw Sheeran release the soul-baring ‘-‘ (Subtract) as the last record in his Mathematics series, before following it with the folk-infused ‘Autumn Variations’. Both of those records were produced by Bryce Dessner from The National.

Now, he’s told Variety that his latest album is finished, as well as hinting at a shake-up of his sound.

“[‘−’ (‘Subtract’)] was obviously a completely different record that didn’t really call for big pop stuff,” he explained.

Asked about the next record, he said: “It feels like I’m getting back into big pop for the first time in a long time. It’s quite exciting.”

According to Variety, Ed has also filmed two new music videos already, while a further two are planned for early 2025 ahead of a “big promo campaign”.

It came as Ed spoke to Variety about Sheeran was speaking to the outlet about his new seasonal song ‘Under The Tree’ which features in Richard Curtis’ new animated Netflix film, That Christmas.

Last month also saw Sheeran claim that he wasn’t asked for permission to have his vocals used on the latest version of Band Aid’s ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas?’

The track’s 40th anniversary has been marked with the release of an “ultimate mix” which sees vocals being combined from the original 1984 track and the 2004 and 2012 versions.

In a post on Instagram Stories, Sheeran shared a comment from Ghanaian-British musician Fuse ODG, which accused the campaign of “[dehumanising] Africans and [destroying] our pride and identity in the name of ‘charity’”.

In response, Band Aid boss Bob Geldof explained he had “put in a call” to Sheeran to end the controversy.
