Cavetown has released the video for his new track, on which Beabadoobee features – you can watch it below.
‘Fall in Love with a Girl’ is the latest track from Robin Skinner, under his Cavetown alias, and his first new release since last year’s ‘Man’s Best Friend’ EP. The dreamy, gently melodic indie-pop track features a typically soothing verse from Beabadoobee, real name, Bea Laus, with the Dirty Hit singer-songwriter also making an appearance in the video.
Speaking about the track, Skinner said: “Fall in Love with a Girl” is about someone who’s struggling with their sexuality and how that affects their happiness. This person is scared to take the leap to make themselves happy and tries to make things work in a hetero relationship. When they finally take the step to be in a same-sex relationship, they realise how happy it makes them and that it’s okay to trust yourself.”
Skinner came out as transgender in 2020, and has previously stated that he is on both the romantic and asexual spectrums, as well as using he/they pronouns. ‘Man’s Best Friend’ was his second EP, after 2018’s ‘Dear.’; he has also released four full-length albums, the most recent being ‘Sleepyhead’, which came out in March of 2020. The release of ‘Fall in Love with a Girl’ may indicate that another album is in the works, but before that, Skinner will tour the U.S. in March and April, with a clutch of South American dates in the diary for May.
Meanwhile, Beabadoobee continues to gear up for her second solo record, the follow-up to her critically-acclaimed 2020 debut ‘Fake It Flowers’; last November, she told Consequence that “every single song is in a whole completely different world” on the album. In a separate interview with Alt Press, she cited revered Canadian indie rockers Stars and avant-pop veterans Stereolab as inspirations.
“I’ve been working with my guitarist Jacob and using a lot of teenage engineering, drum machines, mixtures of guitars,” she said. “It’s been really fun. I don’t know how to explain it, but it sounds very 2006. I feel like this new album is what I am meant to sound like.” The record is expected to be released this year.
