Cardi B is set to release her first single of 2022 this coming Friday (July 1).
‘Hot Shit’ will feature guest turns from Kanye West and Lil Durk, and was initially confirmed in an ad that played during the broadcast of the BET Awards on Sunday (June 26). Now, the ‘Bodak Yellow’ star has reaffirmed the news herself in a series of posts on Twitter. My new single “Hot Shit” available everywhere THIS FRIDAY 7/1, she wrote. “Tomorrow 8pm I got another surprise for yall, tune in.”
The surprise in question would appear to be the artwork for the single, which she posted to Twitter yesterday (June 27) – you can see it below. ‘Hot Shit’ will be the rapper’s first single on which she is the lead artist since last November’s ‘Bet It’, which was taken from the soundtrack to the Netflix film ‘Bruised’. She has, however, already made guest appearances on two other singles in 2022: ‘No Love’, with SZA and Summer Walker in March, and ‘Shake It’, with Kay Flock, Dougie B and Bory300, in April.
A new album from Cardi is in the works, four years after her multi-platinum debut, ‘Invasion of Privacy’. At the beginning of 2020, she told fans that she was “going away for a very long time” to work on the album, although she has continued to steadily appear on singles in the intervening months, which includes her smash hit collaboration with Megan Thee Stallion, ‘WAP’.
An update shared to Instagram this past January affirmed that she remains at work on the album, with a brief clip that showed her in what she described as a “ghetto-ass studio”, with what appeared to be a modest recording setup visible. Since, she’s gone on to tell fans that she is experiencing “technical difficulties” with the new record, in a voice note posted to Twitter.
“I seen a lot of y’all talking shit like, ‘Oh she doesn’t feed us,” she said in the clip last month. So when I put what I’mma put out, I’mma talk more about it because clearly I can’t talk about it now. “But I really had technical difficulties with my latest project. I had not one, not two, but like three technical difficulties on the music that I’ve been working on that … it had to be done and taken care of before I put it out.”
“When things come out, that’s when I’mma talk about it,” she went on. “It’s nothing, like, major or crazy.” The album is still expected to be released in 2022.
