Outdoor shows in the Great British Summer™ can be the trickiest of propositions. You’ll hope for glorious sunshine, but it’s far more likely that you’ll be met with a downpour of biblical proportions.

That second scenario, dear reader, is the fate faced by Arlo Parks and Marika Hackman when they played an incredibly special one-off show at London’s Regents Park Theatre on Monday.

The show, which marks part of Trangressive Records’ 20th anniversary celebrations, saw both artists battling the elements – and their resilience meant that it turned out to be an incredibly special evening.

“There’s a rugged drama to playing a show in the rain that I’ve always wanted to experience,” explained Arlo.

She’s not wrong, before later describing it as an “unforgettable gig”. Yes, there was the looming possibility that the whole thing could be called off, but the determination from both artist and crowd meant that it could become a gig for the ages.

Now, to mark the one-off occasion, we’ve been given an exclusive BTS look at the show from both Marika and Arlo. You can check those rain-soaked snaps out below, alongside a little explanation in the captions from both artists.

Transgressive’s 20 year celebrations will continue into the Autumn, with a show from The Moonlandingz and University at The Garage, folk star Johnny Flynn’s biggest show to date at the Eventim Apollo, Mystery Jets at Earth Theatre and Congolese collective KOKOKO! at the Village Underground.

Toby L, Tim Dellow and Lilas Bourboulon of Trangressive said: “We are thrilled to celebrate the first twenty years of Transgressive. It’s a harrowing understatement to remark upon what a challenging time it is in the world right now, but we hope that the activities we’re planning can continue to shine a light on the irrepressible, unifying power of music and art, and the potency and strength of the human spirit. To kickstart our anniversary, we wanted to reflect the eclecticism and inclusivity of the company’s roster and culture by putting together some communal moments.

“Since our earliest days, we’ve curated and staged shows and events, and it felt like the most natural way to share the joy and gratitude that we feel for making it this far. And in order to tell a bit more of a London story, we’re revisiting some of the venues that were seminal in our origins – not least the Garage in Highbury, above which the first ever Transgressive office existed. Aside from a severe rodent infestation and the ceiling caving in, and the fact it was soon after mysteriously bolted up and we could never gain entry or access to it ever again, it was very much the starting point for everything: a couple of passionate teenagers with very few resources, but a lot of love and passion, which has now extended to the incredible team and group of artists that we work with today.”
