It's the biggest opening week for an artist in the UK Charts in four years

ABBA have now officially released 10 Number 1 albums, as ‘Voyage’ has soared to the top of the UK Official Albums Chart this week.
The record has sold over 204,000 copies in the first seven days since it was released, and has earned the band the biggest opening week in the Chart in four years – since Ed Sheeran released his third studio album ‘Divide’.
‘Voyage’ is the first ABBA studio album to reach Number 1 in 40 years, with compilations ‘The Singles’ and ‘Gold’ both topping the charts in the interim.
“We are so happy that our fans seem to have enjoyed our new album as much as we enjoyed making it!” the band told Official Charts in a statement. “We are absolutely over the moon to have an album at the top of the charts again!”
The album is also officially the fast-selling album to be released by a group in eight years, coming after One Direction’s Midnight Memories in November 2013.
ABBA had previously suggested ‘Voyage’ could be their final studio album, although band member Anni-Frid Lyngstad has since teased fans by saying “don’t be too sure” that there won’t be any more new music in future.
In a five-star review of ‘Voyage’, Rolling Stone UK’s Darren Styles wrote: “Voyage’ is a majestic finish, both familiar and new – drawn, as ever was the case, from a range of musical influences miles wide in breadth and depth.
“It’s ABBA as they ever were, locked in period without apology or shame, and above all is a fitting finale.”
ABBA will soon be taking their new music on tour with a series of groundbreaking digital concerts in May 2022 – find out more about the string of shows here.
