A$AP Rocky says he’s currently “wrapping up” his new album
"I’ve pushed myself to the limit on everything," he added of the new record, which follows 2018's 'Testing'
A$AP Rocky has confirmed that he’s currently “wrapping up” work on a new album that sees him “[pushing] myself to the limit on everything.”
The rapper, who recently welcomed his first child with Rihanna, has been teasing the follow-up to his 2018 album ‘Testing’ for years, believed for a long time to be called ‘All Smiles’.
In a new interview with Dazed, Rocky said that the album will in fact not bear that name, but that it is almost finished.
“One thing I can tell you is that the name isn’t gonna be ‘All Smiles’ – you know, I never publicly said that my album was called ‘All Smiles’,” he said, adding that the ‘All Smiles’ project is “more of a concept project, it’s music and more.”
Rocky added: “I’m wrapping up the new album now; I’ve been shooting so many visuals for it. I don’t want to be cliché or sound like a salesman, but I’ve pushed myself to the limit on everything. Going from that industrial, subversive sound from ‘Testing’ and then graduating with a more polished sound…I just like where it is.”
Last month, Rocky was bailed following an arrest in connection with a shooting that happened in late 2021.
The rapper was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) after arriving on a private plane from Barbados, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
A search warrant was also executed at the rapper’s residence in Los Angeles. His attorney, Alan Jackson, confirmed that his client had been arrested.
The rapper, real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers, was taken to jail at 12:42pm local time, and bail was set at $550,000 (£421,291), according to the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
A$AP is set to be headline this year’s Wireless Festival at Crystal Palace Park in London on July 1.
