Leeds Festival closes two stages on first day due to high winds

No music will be held on the BBC Radio 1 and Aux stages on the Friday of the Bramham Park festival.

Leeds Festival has been forced to close two of its stages on the first day of this year’s festival due to high winds.

Gusts of up to 60 miles per hour are expected at the Bramham Park site today (August 23), with a yellow weather warning in place this morning.

Taking to X/Twitter, the festival revealed that the arena will be opening late today, and no music at all will take on the BBC Radio 1 and Aux stages. Beabadoobee, Alfie Templeman and more were set to play on the former stage today.

“We can see an end in sight to the high winds,” the festival told fans. “We definitely won’t be opening the arena at 11am, but we are targeting as soon as possible after that and we will update you further.”

The message added: “However, we have definitely lost the BBC Radio 1 stage today, and there will be no performances on it. We have also lost the Aux stage today, and there will be no performances on it.”

We remain hopeful that everything else will continue as planned and that we will still have an amazing weekend. Please await further information.”

Reading & Leeds 2024 will be headlined by the likes of Liam GallagherLana Del ReyFred again.. and Blink-182.

For this year, the festival have also unveiled a huge new dance stage called The ChevronThe ProdigySkrillex and Sonny Fodera will headline the 40,000 capacity arena, with the stage also hosting the world’s biggest silent disco.
