The guitar played by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s famous MTV Unplugged performance is to be put on public display in the UK for the first time.

The Martin D-18E acoustic guitar – which became the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction back in 2020 – will be on display for the second half of the year as part of the upcoming Kurt Cobain Unplugged exhibition at the Royal College of Music Museum in London.

The exhibition, from journalist Alan di Perna and curator Gabriele Rossi Rognoni, will run from June 3 to November 18 this year.

Tickets for the exhibition will be available here for £5 from April 30. Also on show at the exhibit will be Cobain’s cardigan from the Unplugged performance and a slew of Nirvana memorabilia and Cobain’s personal archives.

Last year, the BBC aired a new hour-long documentary to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of Kurt Cobain.

A wide range of content across television and radio has been announced to mark the 30 year anniversary, including the documentary Moments That Shook Music: Kurt Cobain on BBC Two and iPlayer.
