Julian Casablancas, Pet Shop Boys and more among BBC Radio 6 Music’s new Artists in Residence
Also among the station's autumn programming is a special show marking 30 years of Jeff Buckley's ‘Grace’.
BBC Radio 6 Music have announced their autumn programming, including new Artists in Residence, from The Strokes‘ Julian Casablancas to Pet Shop Boys.
Casblancas will present his shows from September 30-October 3 across four curated shows, with Pet Shop Boys’ Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe following on November 11-14.
The third new Artist in Residence is avant-garde creative Laurie Anderson, who said: “It’s been a blast being your DJ and I hope you like the things I put together for 6 Music. I always wanted to have a late night radio show for people who are somewhere between awake and asleep. But even if you’re out and about – I hope you have a good time listening to some of my favourite music.”
Other upcoming shows include a special programme marking 30 years of Jeff Buckley’s Grace, presented by Guy Pearce, who said: “I was one of those people who was immediately transfixed when I first heard Grace and it’s no exaggeration to say the album changed my life. At the core of my admiration for Jeff lies an extremely personal and profound feeling that he’s not singing or speaking to me, but that he is speaking for me.
“I’m lifted and floored every time I listen to Grace in a way that no other music has ever done to me. In this programme we’re going to hear from artists inspired by Jeff, his collaborators, colleagues, family and friends who share my deep love for Jeff and his music to explain why he remains a vivid presence in the lives of those who knew him, those who worked with him, and those who were affected by his music.”
Also returning this month (September 16-19 and 23-26) will be The Peel Collection, where Tom Ravenscroft invites musicians to the home of his late father, John Peel, to look through his record collection. Guests on this new edition include Ezra Collective‘s Femi Koleoso, Fatboy Slim and Johnny Flynn
6 Music will also host T-Shirt Day again on September 19, where staff and listeners are encouraged to wear their favourite band t-shirts.
