The idea for the video came to Joe Talbot in a dream, and got the sign-off from Martin himself.

IDLES have shared a new video for ‘Grace’, a reimagination of Coldplay‘s iconic ‘Yellow’ video featuring an AI deepfake of Chris Martin.

The track appears on IDLES’ fifth album, TANGK, which is released tomorrow (February 16), and frontman Joe Talbot said that the idea for the new video came to him in a dream.

In it, a deepfake Martin walks along the same beach as in the ‘Yellow’ video, but is singing the lyrics to ‘Grace’ thanks to AI.

“The song came from nowhere and everything,” Talbot said of ‘Grace’. “It was a breath and a call to be held.

The song features “the only words or singing that came from our sessions with Nigel [Godrich] and I needed it, truly. All is love.”

Reviewing TANGK, Rolling Stone UK said: “As a collection of love songs, it works incredibly well, allowing the group to mine their souls without losing excitement and variety in the process. Five albums into their career, IDLES remain one of Britain’s most exciting and vital bands. To quote Talbot himself: all is love.”

IDLES also appear in issue 15 of Rolling Stone UK where Talbot and guitarist/producer Mark Bowen discuss the album’s core tenet of love, working with Nigel Godrich and their creative partnership.
