Hear Sam Fender cover Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m On Fire’ in stripped-back session
Exclusive: Fender has debuted the new tracks for an Apple Music session
Sam Fender has performed two songs for a stripped-back home session including a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s iconic track ‘I’m On Fire’.
The exclusive session filmed for Apple Music, which premieres today (January 28) on Rolling Stone UK, sees the singer-songwriter joined by Australian band Gang of Youths for the rendition.
Fender also plays a new version of his own track, ‘Last To Make It Home’, which is taken from his 2021 album ‘Seventeen Going Under’.
You can listen to Sam’s version of ‘I’m On Fire’ here, and his rendition of ‘Last To Make It Home’ here.
Sam said: “I don’t do myself any favours with the Bruce comparisons, and I’m gonna make it worse by doing his songs but he’s my favourite artist of all time and a massive inspiration. Me and Dave from Gang of Youths spontaneously covered ‘I’m On Fire’ when they [Gangs of Youths] were supporting us on the arena tour last year.
“I jumped in on their set, then he jumped in on mine. It took us a bit of practice to get the harmonies right, singing in the loos backstage, etc. Dave is a good mate and such a legend, so it was fun to record together.”
He added: “He continues: “I chose ‘Last To Make It Home’ because it’s a tune from the new album which works really well being stripped back. My mate Heidi Curtis jumped on this one with some stunning backing vocals.”
The Tyneside troubadour will play to 40,000 fans at the historic North London park on July 15, backed by a support bill that includes Fontaines D.C., Declan McKenna, Goat Girl and Beabadoobee.
The news followed Fender securing his second UK Number One album with ‘Seventeen Going Under’ as well as gracing the first ever cover of Rolling Stone UK last October.
