Guns N’ Roses haven’t written any new music since reunion

Slash has said that Gun N’ Roses haven’t written any new music since their reunion.

The band announced a new EP last month ‘Hard Skool’, but guitarist Slash said the band has not written any new music since he and Duff McKagan rejoined in 2016.

In an interview with Audacy, the guitarist said that even with the forthcoming EP release, the band have not written new music yet.

“As far as new Guns is concerned, we haven’t even gotten to that point of really in earnest sitting down and writing,” he said.

“We’ve been doing a lot of material that’s been sort of sitting around for a while. So that will be a whole focused endeavour unto itself.”

The EP’s title track ‘Hard Skool’ released in September, was written during sessions for their 2008 album ‘Chinese Democracy. Made up of four tracks, the EP will be the first new record from the trio in 28 years, slated for release on February 25. The group is also made up of Richard Fortus, Frank Ferrer, Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese.

It will also include their August single ‘Absurd’, along with live versions of 1991 track ‘Don’t Cry and ‘You’re Crazy’ from their debut album. Slash and McKagan left the band after the release of 1993 album ‘The The Spaghetti Incident?’.

Slash also spoke about the legacy of the EP’s tracks and how the band revamped them for the upcoming release. “They both have a lot of history. What happened was Axl has all these songs that he recorded at some point along the way,” he said.

“And so [McKagan] and I went in and re-did them, basically… Like, I wrote my own kind of parts to what else is going on, and [we] just sort of took the drums and re-did everything else.”

Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum recently spoke about why he was not invited to the band’s reunion.

In an excerpt from his forthcoming memoir, ‘Double Talkin’ Jive: True Rock ‘N’ Roll Stories’, he explains that he learned of the reunion on the internet while on a South American tour with Slash and McKagan.

After confronting McKagan, he told him Axl Rose wanted to use his own drummer Frank Ferrer.

Speaking to Rolling Stone in September, Sorum said: “I’ve come to terms with the fact that they’re [Guns N’ Roses] doing their own thing, and I’m doing mine.

“I can’t say that when it went down, I was completely happy with the circumstances. At the same time, I feel really good about my time in the band.”
