George Ezra’s walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats documented in new film
Ezra performs songs from his new album 'Gold Rush Kid' at various stops on the journey
George Ezra is starring in a new documentary that chronicles his 95-day walking expedition from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
The singer-songwriter‘s journey from the most southerly point of England (Land’s End) to the northern tip of the UK (John O’Groats, Scotland) has been recorded for ‘End To End’, a new film by producers Richard Yee (‘An Idiot Abroad’), Catherine Miller and Fiona Neilson (‘Oasis: Supersonic’).
The Adam Scarborough and Christy Tattershall-directed documentary follows Ezra and two close friends on the 1,200-mile adventure, which Ezra decided to undertake after months of isolation amid the COVID pandemic.
‘End To End’, which is being launched by Protagonist Pictures at the European Film Market (running alongside the Berlin Film Festival) this month, also sees Ezra perform intimate acoustic sets and reveal exclusive songs from his upcoming third album ‘Gold Rush Kid‘.
Ezra said in a statement: “The journey we went on was incredible and it took me to a place that I’d been getting to in my mind. The way I was thinking was legitimised in a way by this trip.
“It slowed me right down and it made a world that was previously huge and daunting to me feel like a pinprick in a piece of paper. While I was on the walk, I started receiving mixes of the new songs I had been working on, so the journey was soundtracked by the new album and each made the other more meaningful.”
Yee said: “After being deprived of live music during lockdown it was a joy to bring George’s intimate performances and life affirming outlook to the screen as he trekked the length of the UK alongside two of his closest friends. With unique access to George throughout the journey, End to End is an entertaining, moving, and uplifting film unlike any music documentary you’ve seen before.”
Last month Ezra shared his first new music for four years in the form of ‘Anyone For You’, the first single from his forthcoming album.
The musician also announced full details of ‘Gold Rush Kid’, which will be released on June 10 via Columbia.
Explaining the title, Ezra said: “The Gold Rush Kid? That’s me.” He added of the album’s 12 songs: “they sound like me. That’s what ties them together.”
He will also preview new material at three intimate shows this month and next in Manchester, Edinburgh and London. Fans who pre-order the album before the end of the month will gain access to an exclusive pre-sale for tickets.
