Declan McKenna announces huge Royal Albert Hall show
McKenna will be joined by a number of as-yet-unnamed special guests
Declan McKenna has announced details of one of his biggest headline shows to date, a special performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
Fresh from his recent UK headline tour, McKenna will play the prestigious venue next May along with as-yet-unannounced special guests.
Announcing the show on Twitter, McKenna said: “So excited to announce that I’ll be playing the Royal Albert Hall in London on 2 May 2022!! It’s for one night only & I’ll be joined by a bunch of friends…”
Tickets go on presale this Wednesday (November 24) at 9am, with a general sale the following Friday. You can find tickets here.
Following the London date, McKenna will play a run of further shows he was forced to postpone earlier this year. The singer-songwriter had been unable to play the Liverpool, Manchester and Nottingham dates of his ‘Zeros’ tour in September after he tested positive for coronavirus.
The initial ‘Zeros’ tour, in support of McKenna’s album of the same name, featured two huge shows at London’s O2 Brixton Academy.
The second was recently released as the concert film ‘Declan McKenna: Live At Brixton Academy’, and premiered for free last Thursday (November 18) on McKenna’s Vevo site.
Thanking fans for their support for the film, McKenna revealed that he’s hard at work on the follow-up to ‘Zeros’.
“Thanks for the love last night i stopped watching half way through bc i am literally making my album over here but i already seen that shit too many times anyways much love,” he said on Twitter.
Future material from McKenna may well involve Sam Fender, with whom he has long spoken of collaborating. Speaking to NME at this summer’s Reading, McKenna confirmed that the two will enter the studio “at some point”, adding that both have been too busy to make it happen until now.
